A little about Curtis…
His grandfather is author Larry McMurtry. His father is songwriter James McMurtry. He was mentored and championed by the late great Guy Clark. It’s no surprise Curtis McMurtry’s songs are full of vivid characters.
In 2015 Rolling Stone magazine included Curtis in their list of “21 Country-Music Artists You Need to See” at SXSW (along with Kelly Willis, Rat Wylie Hubbard, Suzy Bogguss, Robert Earl Keen, Ryan Bingham, and Willie Nelson).
In 2017 Rolling Stone magazine named Curtis one of the “10 New Country Artists You Need to Know” and described him thusly:
Sounds Like: Barbed late-night ruminations on wicked crimes of the heart, sung with a sly smile
For Fans of: Lyle Lovett, Leonard Cohen, unapologetic Americana
In February 2021, Curtis released his third album, Toothless Messiah, to continued critical acclaim.
Diana Burgess is a cellist, composer, and educator based in Austin, TX. Her debut solo album You Run is out now, and was recently featured on NPR’s All Songs Considered.

Two things about McMurtry up front: Nobody in Austin is doing anything quite like his music right now, and his talent as a lyricist is well above the vast majority of young songwriters in town.”
